We are a family team who are passionate about the welfare of our Alpacas. We started with the purchase of two stud male Huacaya Alpacas in 2010 called Che and Seve. The reason behind us buying them was because 25 free range hens were attacked by a fox. We then purchased 2 pregnant females and as they say the rest is history and we now have a 50+ strong herd of alpacas and we enjoy learning something new each day.
Our herd has increased through our carefully selected breeding programme. Our herd include Australian genetics from the famous Jolimont Conquistador, Jolimont Warrior, Jolimont Commisario, Jolimont Stephano and Purrumbete Highlander.
We are so excited about our cria every year having introduced elite new genetics already, with our favoured Australian blood lines. We have carried on building our herd and are now concentrating on breeding Appaloosa(spotty) and Harlequin alpacas using some impressive stud males which include Sandhills Appaloosa Hotspot, Chalford Harlequins Abstract and Larchstock Appaloosa Lancelot.
We started our small family business Sandhills Alpaca Pods in 2016 and are continually developing new ideas, one of which is our Alpaca Pods and all the various designs. The reasons behind theses Pods are we couldn’t find field shelters on the market that would be suitable for the Alpaca’s and sheep, sturdy enough, practical, and good looking. We have been supplying our Pods now for several years and based on customers positive feedback and requirements we keep evolving. We now have several new designs, including open ended pods, llama pods and larger 10ft wide Pods and even Pods with porches, which are proving to be very popular. We find our Pods used for alpacas, llamas, sheep, goats, logs stores and even storage for sit on lawnmowers.
